ABOUT KANE
Finding a voice.
Making room for others.
Kane Diep has spent his career helping people feel seen while continuing to find his own voice. A filmmaker, social strategist and speaker, he connects deeply personal stories with the audience insight that helps them reach beyond the people who already recognize themselves in them.
Raised in San Diego by Chinese-Vietnamese refugee parents, Kane grew up between cultures and learned to pay attention to the ways families express love, the things they leave unsaid and the distance between being understood and simply being heard. Those questions became the foundation of his work as a gay Asian American storyteller.
Finding a voice through film
His feature documentary, Uploaded: The Asian American Movement, explored a generation of Asian American artists finding audiences online. Kane directed and co-produced the film, drawing on 60 interviews, and brought it to university screenings and conversations about representation, including Princeton and the University of Pennsylvania. The film received a Grand Jury Award nomination at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival.
Personal stories. Global audiences.
At BuzzFeed, Kane directed and produced more than 200 videos across four years. His work made room for difficult conversations about family, identity and self-image, often by putting himself in the conversation. In I Asked My Mom 11 Intimate Questions Before It’s Too Late, curiosity became an invitation to talk across generations. In I Hired a Speech Therapist to Fix My Boring Voice, a seemingly practical experiment opened into a more personal exploration of expression and identity, culminating in a talk before 500 students at Boston University.
He brought that sensitivity to audience behavior into his leadership at Prime Video, helping grow its TikTok account from zero to 23.5 million followers. As Executive Producer and TikTok Lead on Plot Pitches, he helped turn the emotional dynamics of films and series into a new storytelling format. The series earned a 2023 Webby for Best Social Video Series. He later led Team USA’s YouTube channel strategy through Shareability for the 2026 Winter Olympics and Paralympics.
The questions behind the work
The scale has changed, but the questions remain personal. Who gets to be visible? What helps someone speak honestly? How can a specific story create understanding between people with different lives? These are the questions Kane brings to his filmmaking, creative leadership and conversations with audiences.
Based in Los Angeles, Kane is available for consulting, team sessions, university talks, panels, podcasts and editorial interviews. He speaks about storytelling, representation, creative experimentation and finding a voice, drawing on both the work audiences see and the process of learning to show up within it.
